Albany Summer Internship Program (ASIP)

The Albany Summer Internship Program enables students to gain an insider’s perspective on political communications, 政治, and public policy in New York State’s capital city. ASIP interns work at nonprofit advocacy and lobbying organizations as well as state legislative offices. 学生 intern 4 days a week for 6 weeks in May and June and internship placements vary according to students’ interests with opportunities available for many academic majors. A public relations major might work on a social media strategy for a hunger-related nonprofit; a Psychology major might work for a mental health organization; an English or history major might help to develop programming and website content for an Albany-area museum.

The ASIP experience allows students to explore career opportunities by attending weekly Internship in Context seminar sessions which include guest speakers from the fields of government, 新闻, and the nonprofit fields. 在理想的情况下, student participate in the program in the summer after their sophomore or junior years and all students meet regularly with the ASIP Director, Dr. Krista Applebee, for internship guidance, career advice, and networking events. In addition to carefully matching students with their internship placements, Dr. Applebee provides an orientation to familiarize the ASIP interns with Albany and prepare them for work in a professional setting.

ASIP简介

The total program costs are $3,400, including tuition, a program fee, and housing. 学生 live in fully furnished 4-bedroom apartments at the University Heights College Suites, a complex which is conveniently located in Albany’s academic quadrangle. All apartments include free Wi-Fi and parking. Summer is an ideal time to experience the Capital Region’s cultural and natural resources, such as the Art on Lark festival in June and the many hiking trails in the Adirondack Park.

Dr. Krista Applebee joined bet亚洲365欢迎投注 as Director of the Albany Summer Internship Program in 2012. 她得了B.S. in Business Administration from LeMoyne College, and her M.A. 和Ph值.D. in Political 科学 from the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs at the University at Albany, 纽约州立大学.

Dr. Applebee has nearly a decade of experience working in the New York State Senate. She began in the Senate as the Richard J. Roth Journalism Fellow followed by many years directing communications for a New York State Senator subsequently serving as Director of Student Programs.

As Director of Student Programs, Dr. Applebee was responsible for all aspects of student work in the Senate. 以这种身份, she designed and executed the 本科 Session Assistantship and Graduate Fellowship Programs overseeing all placements. She created and managed a student orientation program, weekly academic seminars, and was responsible for the marketing and oversight of the program.
